The town is in the process of trimming branches from trees along town roads. The town is responsible for maintaining the road and up to 24.9 (twenty four and nine/tenths) feet from the center of the road, on both sides of the road. The town is responsible for ensuring that branches are cut back away from the sides of the road. This allows sunlight to reach the roads, helping to keep roads drier and cleaner.
The process of trimming back the roadside trees was not performed for several years, this has unfortunately resulted in the branches reaching out into the roads, reducing the safe travel way on some roads. The Brownington road crew is now working to gradually back the branches away from the roads. This work is being done in the winter to help reduce damage to trees, which will recover quickly in the spring.
If you desire to hire an arborist to perform the trimming of trees bordering your property, you are free to reach out to one. It is important to note: the town will NOT pay for your arborist, and the work must be completed within an approved timeline with the town. If desired we will be happy to provide you with arborist contacts. You MUST present us with written notification prior to the process, allowing the road crew to mark the area you want excluded from the town mowing.
Road crew will be cleaning branches/shrubs cut by the mowing process as they proceed, and will return after spring snow melt to perform additional clean up.
Town crews will be working on Dutton Brook Land and Pepin road the weeks of 3/23/2026 and 3/30/2026.
